Geelong’s VFL side enjoyed a strong 41-point win over Essendon to move to sixth position heading into finals, winning 13.16 (94) to 8.5 (53).
A mixed bag of weather conditions awaited the boys at GMHBA stadium.
Both sides kicked three goals in the first quarter, with the Cats leading by one point at the first break.
Charlie Constable put in plenty of work, finishing the term with 10 touches and three tackles.
A five goal to four quarter gave Geelong the edge at half time, in what was a very tight contest throughout the second term.
It was a slow start to the second half with neither side kicking a goal until the 14-minute mark.
Darcy Fort and Jamaine Jones were the only goal scorers as Essendon were held to just three behinds, with scores 72 to 47.

Geelong had the driver's seat occupied starting the fourth, as James Parsons stretched the lead to 33 points 14 minutes in.
Jackson McLachlan’s third goal sealed the victory and rid any chance of Essendon making a late comeback.
Constable (29 touches) finished the game well with Parsons (31), Scott Selwood (29) and Sam Menegola (24) also having an impact.
Ryan Abbott was dominant in the ruck as he tallied 35 hit-outs, 20 disposals and six marks.
Coach Shane O’Bree was pleased with the overall team performance as well.
“The boys finished their work off a bit better than last week and the scoreboard probably reflected that,” O'Bree said.
“All our guys down there gave themselves opportunities to hit the scoreboard.”
“We’re pretty confident where we’re at.”
The win means that Geelong will play Port Melbourne in the first week of finals.
