On this week’s Tweet the Coach Chris Scott told Cats TV that he’d like to include young Josh Cowan and Jackson Thurlow into his list if there was room to spare.

Earlier this year Thurlow did prove to the club that he was a capable footballer with the necessary skills but unfortunately the opportunity hasn’t arrived again since his fourth AFL game in Round 11.

Cowan on the other hand has been struck with injury for the majority of his time with the Cats. Scott believes he has a lot to give as a footballer and will be a success story if he’s given the chance to break into the side.

“Our 22 is a very hard one to break in to at the moment but we really like those two players, in particular Josh Cowan, if he can force his way into our best 22 it would be a great story,” Scott said.

“He basically had 18 months out of the game with a very serious Achilles injury, then came back for his first VFL game and tore a hamstring but now he’s back and he has played good footy for consecutive weeks.

Scott acknowledges that Taylor Hunt hasn’t entirely bounced back since breaking his collarbone in Round 7 against Essendon, which put him on the sideline for six weeks. However, Scott understands that certain injuries can take their toll.

“Not as well as he performed prior to the injury but we’re making some allowances for Taylor given the interruption he’s had to his footy over the past few weeks.”

“He’s a very flexible player within our side; he can play as a genuine defender, an attacking midfielder and he can also take a more defensive role through the midfield as well.

“We’d like to see Taylor improve and he’s aware of that as we do have some competition for spots, but at the moment we are supporting Taylor’s position within the team.”
