JOEL Selwood and Andrew Mackie have recalled the thrilling finish to last year’s clash with Fremantle at Simonds Stadium in a CatsTV special to mark the return bout this weekend.
The Cats, who had led by 24 points at three-quarter time, won the game by just two points after David Mundy missed a shot at goal after the final siren.
"They were forcing everything forward in that last quarter and really putting us under the pump," Selwood said.
Mundy marked the ball with 10 seconds remaining in the contest after Selwood dived towards him but was unable to effect a spoil.
"I went for the dive and missed the ball and then he took the mark," Selwood remembered.
"Then it was just that waiting around. There was a blood rule during that time."
Mundy's shot from around 50m out initially looked on target, but it faded wide and just missed.
"It was more relief than celebration that we got it done," Selwood said.
Mackie, who was in the thick of the action during the frantic final minutes, agreed that he experienced a feeling of relief after Mundy's miss.
"It's never a great feeling knowing that an opponent misses a goal for you to win a game," he said.
"But such an effort goes into getting in that position. For us to get a win – you just take it any way you can."
