Few players are more reliable than Brad Sheppard. In Brad Scott's last game as North Melbourne coach, Robbie Tarrant put the clamps on Aaron Naughton. Rebounding Richmond backman Bachar Houli continued his excellent season. Nick Haynes might be Greater Western Sydney's best defender, Harris Andrews kept Jesse Hogan without a kick for the first time in his career while Luke Ryan was simply fantastic.
There could be a second Freo best and fairest heading Hill's way. Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury was sublime in the Pies' win over Sydney, and he had plenty of help from Brodie Grundy, who dominated the ruck battle. Josh Kelly helped Greater Western Sydney break its hoodoo at the MCG with the Giants notching just their third win from their past 17 matches at the venue. Dustin Martin is working his way back into his Brownlow form and Kelly helped Geelong overcome a feisty Gold Coast.
The classy foot skills of Gresham stood out. That might have been the best game of Sam Reid's career. Walters was outstanding for Freo, as Jack Gunston was for Hawthorn. Greater Western Sydney's forward line looked so potent against Melbourne and Harry Himmelberg was a big reason for that. Cats powerhouse Tom Hawkins is ranked first for total goal assists and is second in the Coleman Medal – he's in brilliant touch.
Hard nut David Swallow led his side exceptionally well in the clinches as the Suns took it up to Geelong. Veteran Hawk Ricky Henderson is having a career-best year at 30. Ellis-Yolmen has been going well since coming into the side but for all his effort, it wasn't enough to stop Luke Shuey's Eagles.
