Second-year Cat Darcy Moloney has been recognised for her strong performance against GWS Giants with a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination.
Moloney was named as a Round 10 nominee - alongside Western Bulldogs player Isabelle Pritchard - following her 12-disposal, 9-tackle performance last Friday night.
The former Geelong Falcons captain has impressed over her two seasons at the top level. In 2022, Moloney averaged 12.3 disposals and 4.5 tackles, with her tenacity around the contest a highlight.
Taken with the Cats' top pick in the 2020 draft, Moloney has played 14 games across her first two seasons in the competition, bringing pressure and drive to the Cats' line-up.
She has also proven herself capable of standing up in the big moments, kicking the winning goal against West Coast Eagles in Round 5.
The 19-year-old from Colac has also impressed off the field this season. Moloney is passionate about inspiring the next generation of footballers in the Geelong region through her role at AFL Victoria, and as an ambassador for Cats Community's GMHBA Healthy Heroes program.
Moloney is the second Cat this year to earn a Rising Star nomination, after Georgie Prespakis also earned the accolade in Round 1 against North Melbourne.
The AFLW awards NAB Rising Star nominations each week to that week’s two best players under the age of 21.
The overall NAB Rising Star award is decided by a panel of experts and awarded at the end of the season at the W Awards.
