CLASSY Cat Mitch Duncan will be available for selection for Friday night’s clash with the Swans after a faultless return to action on the weekend.
Duncan got through his required workload in Geelong’s VFL practice match with Essendon, emerging unscathed after battling a minor calf injury in the backend of pre-season.
Head of Development Matthew Egan says Duncan was moving well against the Bombers.
“He played half forward and midfield roles and got through almost to three-quarter time before he hit his distance limit,” Egan says.
“He looked like he always does, a smooth runner with some really high-end running patterns.
“He was really engaged with the game, teaching the young boys around positioning and setups.”
Jeremy Cameron will be monitored throughout the week after scans cleared him of serious injury following a heavy collision in the first quarter against the Bombers.
“He’s in good spirits and up and moving at the moment,” GM of Football Simon Lloyd says.
“He’ll do some low-level work early in the week and with the short turnaround he’ll aim to do some training on Wednesday.
“We’ll continually assess his availability for this Friday night’s game in Sydney.”
Sam Menegola and Mark O’Connor could also come up for the weekend after making strides on the training track.
“We’ve got a number of players this week that are really progressing well and are close to playing,” Lloyd says.
“Sam Menegola is one of those who is full training this week, as is Mark O’Connor.
“Both are completing all of our skills and training so they’re very close.”
Dashing defender Jed Bews has been cleared for action after completing the AFL’s concussion protocols.
Gryan Miers and Jonathon Ceglar will return to VFL action after overcoming ankle and knee injuries respectively.
“Gryan Miers has come back from a syndesmosis repair and has progressed well. He’ll play VFL this weekend,” GM of Football Simon Lloyd says.
“Jonathon Ceglar will full train this week and play some modified time this weekend.”
Sam De Koning has been ruled out of the club’s trip to Sydney.
“He suffered a heavy knock on the weekend,” Lloyd says.
“He’ll now progress through the concussion protocols and will miss this weekend’s game.
Gary Rohan is headed in the right direction as he deals with a back injury.
“Gary Rohan has had issues with his back and hip – sciatica issues,” Lloyd says.
“The focus will be on his markers improving, which they are. We’re seeing him beginning to increase his running speed and volume."
James Willis (knee), Toby Conway (hip), Sam Simpson (concussion) and Flynn Kroeger (hip) all continue to progress through their respective programs.
