GEELONG has recalled Shaun Higgins and Sam De Koning for its Round 3 clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday night.

Higgins returns to the Cats' best 22 after being managed last round, while De Koning comes immediately back into the side after completing the AFL's concussion protocols.

Making way for the Cats is Zach Guthrie and Luke Dahlhaus who have been omitted.

This week's game is set to be a special occasion for skipper Joel Selwood who will captain Geelong for the 227th time, overtaking former Blue Stephen Kernahan as the most capped AFL/VFL captain in history.

Geelong will name its medical substitute an hour prior to the 7.25pm first bounce.

The Bendigo Bank Cats will play their Round 2 VFL match earlier in the day against Collingwood at the AIA Centre at 2.05pm.
