Geelong Cats VFLW midfielder Paige Sheppard has signed with expansion club Sydney.
Sheppard, who finished runner-up in the Cats’ VFLW best and fairest last year, has played 33 games in the state league, and established herself as one of the league’s premier onballers.
Last Saturday’s VFLW win over Collingwood was Sheppard’s final appearance for the Cats, as she prepares to make the move up north to embark on her AFLW career.
“We thank Paige for her contribution to our VFLW program over the past four years,” Geelong Head of AFLW and Pathways Brett Johnson said.
“Paige has worked hard to earn her opportunity at AFLW level. Her persistence has paid off and we wish her well as she continues her football journey at the Swans.”
Sheppard is the latest VFLW Cat to earn an opportunity at the top level. Last season, VFLW-listed Cats Claudia Gunjaca, Liv Fuller and Annabel Johnson were all recruited to the Cats’ AFLW list.
The AFLW Sign & Trade Period continues until Wednesday, 8 June.
