The Bendigo Bank Cats have fallen to Werribee in their Round 13 VFL clash with Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday.

The final score read 16.16 (112) to 7.7 (49).

Geelong v Werribee Match Statistics

Geelong had a host of AFL-listed inclusions including Jack Henry, Esava Ratugolea, Max Holmes and Mitch Knevitt.

The squad did well to concede only three goals in the first term as the boys struggled to get any momentum going forward.

The second quarter came in a blur of Werribee inside 50s and scores as poor defensive 50 exits created countless turnovers and made it difficult for the Cats to transition.

A solid third term stopped the bleeding but couldn’t make up the difference, as Werribee finished the match with double the inside 50s (66 to 33).

Despite the loss, Max Holmes (21 disposals, 10 tackles) showed flashes of his potential providing plenty of pressure on ball, while exploding from contests across the ground.

In his return, Ratugolea looked promising at times to finish with the two goals, while mid-season draft recruit Zane Williams kicked his first goal in the hoops and finished with two majors as well.

VFL-listed staples Jye Chalcraft, Matt Ling and Tom Feely all had solid games despite the loss.

On a positive note, Geelong broke even with Werribee in the tackle and clearance count, showing positive signs for the side’s ability to apply pressure and get the ball out of congestion.

Geelong will face Richmond next week at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday June 26 at 12pm.
