Geelong has had all five nominated players selected in the final Therabody All-Australian team at Wednesday night’s AFL Awards.
Tom Hawkins, Mark Blicavs, Tom Stewart, Tyson Stengle, and Jeremy Cameron have all been named in the team, with Bicavs and Stengle receiving their first ever All-Australian blazers, and Hawkins named as skipper for the first time in an already illustrious career.
Hawkins now joins Gary Ablett Sr as the only player in history to be selected to the All-Australian side four times after the age of 30.
It is Hawkins’ fifth career selection, Stewart’s fourth, and Cameron’s third respectively, with the Cats total number of selections the highest since 2019 when Patrick Dangerfield and Tim Kelly joined Hawkins and Stewart in the lineup.
The most ever selections for a Geelong team was in 2007 when nine players and coach Mark Thompson were selected.
As per the criteria established in 2007, the team is selected as if to play a match.
The 2022 All Australian selection panel is Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Andrew Dillon, Glen Jakovich, Gerard Healy, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Nick Riewoldt, and Brad Scott.
In other acknowledgments, Geelong defender Sam De Koning came in second in voting for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award to Collingwood's Nick Daicos and third in voting for the AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player Award.
