Geelong Cats young gun Sam De Koning has signed a fresh two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Club until at least the end of 2027.

The versatile defender-turned-ruck has played 65 games in the Hoops, with his athleticism and ability to impact around the ground key features of his game.

Taken with Pick 19 in the 2019 AFL Draft, De Koning debuted in Round 5 2021, before a breakout year in the Cats’ Premiership-winning season in 2022, finishing second in the Rising Star Award voting.

"I’m excited to commit for at least the next two years. Geelong has become home for me, and I absolutely love everything the Club and region offers,” De Koning said.

“Since being drafted, I’ve been lucky enough to play with some great players and enjoy team success, and the group we are building now has a bright future ahead, and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Geelong Cats Executive General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie said the Club was thrilled to see De Koning recommit.

“Sam is a quality person and player, and we are really pleased he has re-signed with us.

“We look forward to seeing Sam continue to develop as a footballer and flourish alongside our core group of young, emerging players.”

De Koning’s contract extension follows a host of other Cats extending their stay at GMHBA Stadium recently, including Brad Close, Jeremy Cameron, Ollie Henry, Shannon Neale, and Toby Conway.

The Geelong Football Club and Ford will celebrate their 100 year partnership this weekend, when the Cats take on Melbourne on Friday night at GMHBA Stadium.

As part of the celebrations, Geelong will have a number of exciting activations including a Ford premiership motorcade, a fan photo opportunity, while the VFL Cats will also be in action as a curtain raiser at GMHBA Stadium.
