Scans have confirmed Geelong defender Elise Coventry ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s AFLW practice match against Carlton.
Coventry injured her left knee prior to the quarter-time siren at IKON Park and took no further part in the game.
After crossing over from netball, 34-year-old Coventry played two seasons and 30 games with the club’s VFLW team before being drafted by the Cats at pick 55 in the 2018 AFLW Draft.
“We are all disappointed for Elise, a talented footballer and even better person,” Geelong AFLW Coach Paul Hood said.
“It’s a credit to Elise, the way in which she has handled the past few days. Our entire AFLW group, and the club as a whole will throw our support behind her as she begins her rehab and recovery program.”
The club will work on determining the best way forward for Coventry’s rehabilitation.
