Geelong is mourning the passing of former player Mario Bortolotto who has died after a short illness at the age of 65.

Originally from Koondrook in Victoria’s northwest, Bortolotto debuted as a 21 year old for Geelong during the 1979 season, playing in nine games for six wins. He added a further five games the following season before continuing his career at Carlton in 1981.

Bortolotto played 30 games for the Blues including playing in their 1981-82 premiership teams.

Mario is survived by his wife Brigit, son Marcello and daughters Bella and Stephanie.
