Geelong’s host of star youngsters has been recognised with four players named in the initial AFL Players’ Association 22under22 squad.

Young Cats stars Georgie Prespakis, Nina Morrison, Becky Webster and Annabel Johnson have all been named in the initial squad of 44, with the final fan-voted team to be announced on November 22.

Webster has been named in the previous two 22under22 teams, and vying for a third-straight selection off the back of a career-best season.

Last year’s Cats Best and Fairest runner-up averaged 17.6 disposals, 3.6 tackles and 2.2 clearances a game in Season 7, and was an integral part of Geelong’s strong midfield unit.

Fellow midfielder Georgie Prespakis also made the Season 6 team, and is aiming for her second selection in just her second season of the AFLW.

After a brilliant debut season earlier this year, Prespakis backed up with an even stronger second campaign, averaging 21.8 disposals, 7.2 tackles and 5.7 clearances a game.

Capable of rising to big occasions, Prespakis kicked the winning goal in Geelong’s season-opener against Richmond, with a thumping kick a trademark of her game.

Morrison was another to produce a career-best season, named in the initial squad for the third term.

The 21-year-old previously made the 22under22 in 2020.

In Season 7, Morrison averaged 16.1 disposals, 5.7 tackles and 2.1 clearances a game, playing through the midfield, wing and forward.

Annabel Johnson has been named in the initial squad for the first time off the back of her first full season in the AFLW.

Returning from a foot fracture this season, Johnson played every game, with her ability to read the play and intercept proving a huge asset for the Cats.

Johnson, who turned 22 on Sunday, averaged 10.7 disposals, 3.3 marks and 2.1 tackles a game in Season 7.

The 22under22 team, presented by Snaffle, is a fan-voted concept that recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season, with voting open for seven days from 9 November to 16 November. Select your 22under22 here.
