Geelong is mourning the passing of former player Chris Mitchell who has passed away at the age of 75.
Mitchell played 46 games for the Cats across the 1967-68 seasons, before returning in 1971 after spending the 1969 and 1970 seasons with East Perth in the WAFL.
An athletic, strong marking ruckman, and an excellent kick of the football, Mitchell debuted for Geelong Round 1 against Collingwood at Kardinia Park where he had 16 disposals and two goals.
His strong form continued throughout his first League season, and he would go on to share ruck duties throughout the year with legendary Geelong big man Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, earning a spot in the Cats’ 1967 Grand Final side.
Mitchell played his final five VFL games for Carlton which included a five goal haul against the Cats in his 47th of 51 total VFL games.
