Chris Scott on... The Debutants

It's really exciting for us this week, we'll have a couple of players play their first game for the Cats. So, Cooper Whyte will come in as a young player making his AFL debut and Jack Bowes will play as well.

So they're the Ins, Stewart is the Out. We're not ready to communicate the other out at the moment. In any case, I'd rather focus on the exciting part.

Chris Scott on... Cooper Whyte’s Reaction

It's always good to be around footy clubs when those young guys get share their excitement with us.

He was a little bit surprised, he didn't know last night so he slept well which was good, and he was in nice and early this morning as he usually is. He's a really diligent young man. He was excited. I'm hoping he has had the chance to speak to his people before they hear this press conference. They'll be happy nonetheless.

Chris Scott on... Jack Bowes

Jack is a little similar (to Cooper Whyte)  in that we brought him in thinking his best position was probably going to end up as an inside midfielder but the flexibility to play in other spots… with our inside mids at the moment, that can be a hard place to break into.

I think he'll be in there a little bit but he'll be in other spots as well. He's similar to Cooper in that he is one of those guys based on his pre-season with us - and we've tried to confine most of the assessment of him to what we've seen with our own eyes in our system rather than what he has done at the Gold Coast previously - but his ball use is going to be a real asset for us as well and we're likely to try and get him into spots where we can get the ball into his hands.

He's been cleared so that's a really good sign.

It was a challenge for us last week because we lost a couple of defenders going into the game and then we lost Stewart and we took a fair while to get Sam back on the ground. I think he was a little apprehensive around it in the game but he is much more assured now. He's got much more clarity over the type of injury it is and he's confident that his season won't be impacted at all.

Chris Scott on... Carlton

We think that we could have helped our guys around the ball more (last week) from the box and we've obviously reviewed that pretty hard and are confident that a few tweaks will see us perform better there.

Collingwood play differently from Carlton. It's a bit of a trap to spend too much time looking back, you can end up chasing your tail if you're looking at the previous week and not focusing on how this game is going to be different.

But if you do isolate it to your point, which was that we weren't good enough around the ball.. that led to us not getting the ball inside 50 much in the last quarter. Carlton's strengths are Cripps and their midfield around the contest and stoppages, so if we're poor there, the ball is played in our back half and it's going to be much harder. We're looking forward to a response.
