Geelong's first selection in this year's national draft is No. 24, and Cats fans should be very excited about the type of player this pick can bring to the club.

In 2001 the Cats used selection 24 to draft Wangaratta boy Steve Johnson, who went on to become a superstar half-forward/midfielder, playing 253 games in the hoops and featuring in the 2007, 2009 and 2011 premierships.

Two years before that David Wojcinski was selected by Geelong with pick 24.

A dashing defender, 'Wojo' ended up playing 203 games for the Cats and, like 'Stevie J', was part of the '07, '09 and '11 premiership teams.

Geelong also had pick 24 in the 1991 national draft, a selection that was used to recruit key forward Steven Handley.

The big Queenslander enjoyed a solid career at the highest level, playing 73 AFL games, including the 1994 and 1995 Grand Finals.

Cats recruting boss Stephen Wells is now aiming to continue the club's great strikerate with pick 24 when the national draft takes place in Sydney on Friday, November 24.
