Geelong midfielder Cam Guthrie will be sidelined for several months due to a left toe injury.
Guthrie, who hasn’t featured in the Cats side since the Round 6 victory against the Swans, initially sustained the injury in April and had increased his training loads before being reassessed by the medical team this week.
"We are all disappointed for Cam and unfortunately his recovery since sustaining the injury has not progressed as we would have hoped," Geelong General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said.
“After consultation with our medical team and Cam, we have come to a decision that surgery is the best path forward to protect both Cam’s short and long-term health.
“He will undergo surgery on Friday, and we hope to have him back playing in the later stages of the season.”
Guthrie has played 230 games for the Cats since debuting for the Club in Round 1 of the 2011 season.
