Suns burn for a win
Ruckman, Zac Smith, says the Suns' aren't concerned about meeting the Cats on the back of three losses
Gold Coast Suns emerging ruckman, Zac Smith, believes his team can undo the Cats if they put forward a four-quarter-effort.
Saturday Smith ensures the Suns won’t let their past three losses cast a shadow over Metricon Stadium.
The 205cm ruckman, who expects nothing less than a grueling contest from the Cats, says the Suns’ primary focus is on Saturday’s battle not on the clashes before.
“We’re just looking at what opponent we have in front of us this week and that’s Geelong and we know we’re going to get a great contest obviously from them,” Smith told www.goldcoastfc.com.au
“No matter where or when you play them they’re always going to be a tough team.
“We just have to stick four quarters together, I think that’s the main thing.”
Over the last three rounds the Suns have fallen to West Coast, Sydney and Adelaide.
“We know our best footy is good enough it’s just at the moment we’re probably playing two or three quarters of it, which is letting us down a little bit,” Smith said.
However, Smith, who has played 49 games, says the Suns still have a lot more to show and they’re not feeling threatened with what lies ahead.
“I don’t think it’s knocked our confidence it’s just frustrating, I think for any team it would be frustrating, especially because we won a few games at the start, we had a good roll at the start of the season,” Smith explained.
“But you just never want to lose and I think a couple of those games we lost the chance to go up onto another level but we’ve still got a lot of good footy in front of us – so I’m not too worried at this stage.”
Smith hasn’t met the Cats since 2012 in Round 15, where he gathered 13 disposals, 11 hit-outs and three clearances. Last week against West Coast Smith delivered 15 touches, 19 hit-outs, three clearances plus a career high of seven tackles.
