Geelong Cats will have close to a full list to choose from heading into Round 1 of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season, with all but three players available for selection.
Midfielder Becky Webster is expected to be sidelined for another 3-5 weeks as she continues to work her way back from a hamstring injury sustained during pre-season.
Shelley Scott will also miss with a minor calf strain, expecting to return for Round 2.
Young Cat Gabbi Featherston is expected to miss the opening month of the season with a wrist injury.
“With a big season ahead of us and the competition shaping up as tight as it ever has been, we’re pleased to have almost our entire list available heading into Round 1,” Geelong Cats Head of AFLW and Football Pathways Brett Johnson said.
“Becky has approached her rehabilitation program with great professionalism, and although it is disappointing not to have her out there on Saturday, we know she is doing everything to get her body right before she makes her return. Shelley had some calf tightness following our main session and we have decided to take a conservative approach this week”.
“Gabbi’s injury occurred in the practice match, pleasingly with this type of injury it allows Gabbi to maintain and keep building her running capacity for her return to play.”
The Cats open their 2023 AFLW campaign against the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium at 5.05pm on Saturday.
