The Cats will travel to North Sydney Oval this Saturday afternoon for a round two clash with the Swans, looking to build on a strong season opening performance against the Western Bulldogs.
Geelong displayed plenty of their potential in the 48 point round one win, beating the Bulldogs in nearly every major statistical category while piling on 10 goals at GMHBA Stadium.
The Swans showed strength and class down back in their round one win, holding the Giants goalless in the final quarter which will present a new challenge for the Cats in round two.
One pleasing aspect for coach Dan Lowther and his side was that the Cats managed seven individual goal kickers in round one, with plenty of scoring avenues set to help stretch Sydney’s defence this week.
The Swans also managed 16 scoring shots in their first match of the season, which will test the Cats backline this Saturday.
Geelong’s back six was impressive against the Bulldogs, holding them to just two goals from 27 inside 50’s with another big challenge awaiting them against Sydney.
Georgie Rankin, Renee Garing and Becky Webster discussed the upcoming game on this week’s episode of the Cats AFLW podcast ‘Yeah the Girls.’
"We better touch on this weekend, we are off to Sydney this Friday,” Rankin said.
"We got to travel to Adelaide before the season, now we have round two against the Swans and it's meant to be pretty good weather, touch wood.
"They had their first win last weekend and some great support behind them.
"The support from the Sydney men's team as well, we know what it is like to be an expansion club and to get your first win so seeing that was a feel good moment.
