Tom Hawkins signing on for the 2024 season will see him with the opportunity to break Geelong’s all time games record, which is currently held by his great mate and Cats legend, Joel Selwood.
Sitting on 347 games played, Hawkins is currently second on Geelong’s all time list just eight games adrift of Selwood’s total heading into 2024.
The record itself has changed hands more frequently in recent years, with Corey Enright surpassing Ian Nankervis during the 2016 season after a 33 year stint at the top of the table.
Enright went on to finish with 332 games played across his illustrious career, holding the club record for five years before Selwood eclipsed his total in the 2021 semi final win over GWS.
After sitting atop the Geelong list for the past two seasons, the Premiership captain will most likely be passed by Hawkins who needs just nine more games to break the record once more.
The spearhead has played 18 or more games in every season since 2009, with his longevity set to see him take Geelong’s top spot next year.
The Premiership Cat entered the league in 2006 as a Father-Son selection, the same year that Geelong selected Joel Selwood with pick seven in the AFL Draft.
He also sits third on Geelong’s all time goal kicking list, needing 54 goals in 2024 to pass Doug Wade and take second spot behind Gary Ablett Senior.
These records would add add to Hawkins’ impressive resume which includes three Premierships, five All-Australian’s and a Coleman Medal across his 18 seasons with Geelong.
