The Cats were dominant from start to finish at the Gabba, running out 85-point winners over the Brisbane Lions
Cats Media identified three points of interest to follow through the game. Here’s how they played out:
Domsy 200
It was a night befitting of beloved Cat Tom Lonergan, who was chaired from the Gabba atop the shoulders of great mates Andrew Mackie and Harry Taylor following a clinical 85-point win over Brisbane Lions.
Lonergan had 16 disposals and took seven marks in his 200th game and speaking to RSN Racing & Sport on Monday morning, the veteran defender said it was a night to remember on and off the field.
“I made sure as soon as I got off the bus I went upstairs and got the denim jeans on and a nice collar and ventured down to the hotel lobby for a few,” he laughed.
“I had quite a few people up from Yarrawonga and all parts. We certainly kicked onto the early hours of the morning, absolutely.”
The difference a week makes
After two weeks of intense media scrutiny, Joel Selwood was declared fit to play and led his side out against the Lions on Saturday night.
Selwood sustained a concussion in the opening minutes of the Cats’ two-point win over Fremantle in round 14, then missed the following week against Greater Western Sydney.
Back where he belongs in the Geelong midfield, the 28-year-old picked up 24 disposals, seven clearances and nine tackles and carried 150-gamer Mitch Duncan from the ground.
Daddy Danger
Whether it was baby George who inspired Patrick Dangerfield or he’s just too damn good (probably the latter), the no.35 was unstoppable yet again on Saturday night at the Gabba.
38 disposals, 10 clearances, nine marks, nine inside 50’s, three goals and a win could spell another three Brownlow votes for the reigning Brownlow Medallist.
