Reports suggest Cats and Saints in discussion
Few news has arisen of a potential trade between the Cats and Saints
AFL.com.au has confirmed the clubs are in talks, with the Saints pursuing another pick inside their current second round selection (No.22 overall).
The Cats, who received pick No.21 from the Brisbane Lions on Monday in exchange for midfielder Allen Christensen, have been active in pursuing more tall talent to support key forward Tom Hawkins.
They are expected to secure former Melbourne tall Mitch Clark on Tuesday afternoon in a three-way deal that will send premiership Cat Travis Varcoe to Collingwood.
"We have had inquiries about Rhys Stanley from several clubs, as we have had about a number of our players. We will continue to explore any potential deal that is in line with our list management strategy," St Kilda’s list manager Ameet Bains told SAINTS.com.au.
The athletic Stanley, who is also capable of rotating in the ruck, has played 58 games in six seasons.
His 2014 campaign was inconsistent and the 23-year-old was dropped to the VFL mid-season for three weeks.
He was a star against Fremantle in round 18, however, showing his potential as a second forward alongside captain Nick Riewoldt in a brilliant performance, taking 14 marks and kicking three goals.
Stanley signed a three-year contract halfway through the 2012 season, tying him to the club until the end of 2015.
