Chris Scott is optimistic that the Cats are well positioned for the back half of the year, regaining valuable momentum against Richmond after a month of results that didn’t fall their way.

Geelong remains in third place on the ladder with eight wins for the year, with a challenging schedule coming up including three consecutive games against teams that currently sit in the top five.

Geelong will face top-of-the-ladder Sydney this week before their bye, returning to face Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood at the MCG in the month following their week off.

Speaking on AFL360 last Monday, Scott said it could have easily been a different narrative over the last month, with three of the Cats losses coming by eight points or less.

"The glass half full assessment of our last month is that our game wasn't that different to the previous month,” Scott said.

“Our second halves have been really good, and hopefully we can take that momentum forward and be a little bit more consistent with what we are trying to do.

“The optimistic view is that we have been beaten by some pretty good teams by less than a kick, and one really bad game up in Darwin.

“Every team will have their moments and even the very best teams will have a short term blip.

“The challenge is to keep your head above water when it's not going very well, and not get on your toes too much when you do have a few wins.

Hopefully the shift in the second half against Richmond sets us up for this next period.”

Scott will go head-to-head with Sydney coach John Longmire for the 24th time this weekend with the Cats having lost just four times in 10 trips to the SCG under Chris Scott.
