Chris Scott is confident that the Cats can match it with one of the top midfield groups in the competition, when they face Sydney on Sunday afternoon.
Geelong’s on-ball brigade will come up against a strong Sydney midfield with the likes of Chad Warner, Isaac Heeney and Errol Gulden, in what is set to be a strong challenge for the Cats
After gaining plenty of momentum in their second half comeback win over Richmond last week, Chris Scott said while they respect Sydney and their start to the year, the Cats won’t be scared of the task that awaits them at the SCG on Sunday.
“While we have a healthy respect and admiration for Sydney's midfield, I don't think we have ever been intimidated,” Scott said.
“I mean that with the greatest respect, they have clearly been the best team in the competition this year, but there is no point going up there and starting on the back foot.
“The guys that we have available at the moment, you can go through those players from last week and they all performed strongly.
“Bruhn was very good, Holmes was great again as he has been all season, Jack Bowes was probably the best player on the ground, Blicavs is coming back and Clark will probably come back as well.”
The Cats jumped into third spot on the ladder following their win against the Tigers, with a chance to enter their bye week on a positive note with victory over the Swans.
Sydney have been the highest scoring team in the competition this year averaging over 100 points per game, an area Geelong will need to quell this weekend.
Scott said one area of focus for the Cats is how they can get the match on their terms, particularly early in the game to apply some pressure to Sydney.
“It'll be a big challenge this week, against a team that has had the game played the way they want it for the whole season,” Scott said.
“We also have a lot of confidence in what we look like when we get it played our way, we would love to win early centre bounces and get the ball in our forward half.
“We would like to see pressure on the opposition so they can't control the ball, and that's a real strength of Sydney as well.
“We think we have some potency in our forward half, and we would like to put the opposition under a bit of pressure by getting some quality ball in there.”
Geelong will name its final 23 to take on the Swans at 5.00pm tonight.
The match will be broadcast on Foxtel, streamed via Kayo from 2.30pm or you can listen to all the coverage on K rock Football.
