Kate Kenny has touched down in Australia and has immediately commenced her inaugural AFLW preseason, as the Irish recruit looks to familiarise herself with Australian Rules football.
Hailing from County Offaly, Kenny possesses a wide range of exciting attributes that made her a Gaelic football and Camogie star, landing on the Cats radar ahead of the 2024 season.
With a bit of AFLW preseason now under her belt, Kenny spoke to Cats Media and said that the transition has been smooth and easy so far.
"It's coming up to a week now since I arrived, it is probably a little bit colder than I thought it was going to be but it has been really nice,” Kenny said.
“I got to go to our camp over the weekend and it was nice to get to know everybody, it has been really good so far.
“The girls (Meg McDonald and Rachel Kearns) collected me from the airport and they have really made me feel at home here.
“They have been looking after me and they have made it a really easy transition so far."
Kenny rounds out a quartet of exciting Irish recruits that will feature for the Cats, a group that includes Aishling Moloney, Rachel Kearns and Anna-Rose Kennedy.
Kenny is excited about the opportunity to learn a new sport, while hoping her Gaelic abilities will hold her in good stead as she adapts to the oval shaped football.
"It is such a great opportunity for an Irish person to come over and to give the sport a go,” Kenny told Cats media.
“I'm aware of how much hard work will have to go into it, but it is something that I am really excited about and I am really privileged to be here.
“I have already been talking to Dan and a few of the girls, just to get familiar with the game and the rules as much as I can.
“That is the aim for the first few weeks, then hopefully I can build myself into the team and get involved."
