With a healthy skipper returning and refreshed following the bye, Brad Close said he and the team are confident they can make a charge in the second half of the season.
The Cats have a big month of football awaiting including three MCG clashes, starting with a Friday night blockbuster against Carlton this week.
Brad Close joined the RSN Breakfast with Daniel Harford on Thursday morning, discussing the Cats mentality as they look to build momentum heading into the back half of the season.
"Yeah absolutely we are still confident, I think that is always the goal and we look to win the flag each year,” Close said.
“I think this group still has it in them, we haven't lost too many players since 2022 and there are some young players who are really ready to step up.
“Max Holmes is having a great season, I am really liking what he is doing out there at the minute and he can be one to push the group forward."
Close has quietly put together a very strong campaign, booting 16 goals in 13 matches while only being held goalless once so far this year.
The premiership Cat is also averaging career highs in goal assists and marks inside 50, while continuing to wreak havoc with his trademark forward pressure.
Close is relishing the opportunity to play alongside a number of highly talented forwards, touching on how strong the connection is amongst the forward group.
"We are really tight as a forward line, including big Hawk and Jezza,” Close told RSN.
“Ollie Henry and Ollie Dempsey are two newer additions that have come in and played some really good footy for us as well.
“I think we are clicking really well, Tyson and Gryan use the ball really well so it is nice playing alongside guys like that.”
The Cats face Carlton on Friday night at the MCG, with the opening bounce at 7.40pm.
