This weeks’ Time Cat-Sule takes us back to a top of the table clash in 2013, when Geelong extended their winning streak over Hawthorn
The Cats and Hawks rivalry wrote another chapter in 2013, with an enormous crowd (85,197) packing into the MCG as the top two teams on the ladder fought it out in a nailbiter.
Geelong led at every change, extending the margin out to 33 points at the nine minute mark of the final quarter, before the Hawks booted five majors in a 10 minute span to set up a grandstand finish.
Josh Caddy gave the Cats some breathing room with a perfect set shot from the boundary, before Jordan Murdoch slammed the door shut with his third goal of the night, sealing a 10 point win.
Geelong entered the clash in second spot on the ladder with an 11-2 record, while Hawthorn sat in top spot with only one loss from 13 games to start the season.
The round 15 match came amidst the famous Kennett Curse, with the Cats winning their 11th straight match against the Hawks.
Joel Selwood was awarded three Brownlow votes, collecting 34 disposals (19 contested) and eight clearances, while laying seven tackles and booting a goal.
Inaccurate kicking plagued the Cats through the middle of the match, registering 1.13 from quarter time to the end of the third.
The dam wall burst open in the final quarter with the two sides combining for 11 goals, as the Cats went on to record another famous win over the arch nemesis.
Mitch Duncan received two Brownlow Votes for his 22 disposal performance, while Jordan Murdoch was Geelong’s only multiple goal kicker, booting three majors.
