A solid display from Patrick Dangerfield helped to inspire the Cats to an important comeback win, defeating a plucky Adelaide outfit on Saturday afternoon.

Dangerfield collected a game-high eight inside 50s and nine clearances, including three clearances in the final quarter as Geelong booted three consecutive goals to secure the four points.

The win moved the Cats into fifth position on the ladder, with only one game separating Geelong and top-of-the-ladder Sydney with three games remaining.

Dangerfield said that it was important to get the win on Saturday, but it also gives the Cats plenty to work on in the run home.

“Their pressure was good; it was a good game of footy for pretty much the entire match,” Dangerfield told Cats Media.

“There are things that we can work on there and rectify, particularly at the end of that third quarter.

“There is plenty for us to learn from, but the important part in a season like this is to maintain your resolve and get the game back on your terms and find a way to win.

“We knew they were going to be a lot better than their form suggested last week, with Jordan Dawson coming back in – who is a superstar of the game – and Matt Crouch.”

Dangerfield continues to gain momentum in the back half of the season, averaging over five clearances per game across his last five matches.

Geelong also celebrated its Member Thank You Game on Saturday, thanking the Cats’ growing membership base for their support in 2024.

Dangerfield paid tribute to the Geelong fan base, noting how much the players and coaches appreciate the support all year round.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have the supporter base that we do,” Dangerfield said.

“We are closing in on 90,000 members, which is incredible for a region of around 250,000 people.

“We send a huge thankyou to all of our supporters, both in Geelong and across the nation. They make the game so special for us and that is what it's all about.

“Thank you for all your support; we have some work to do before finals start and we have to earn the right to be there.

“You have all played a huge role right throughout the year. We have some sharpening to do, but we will be ready.”

The Cats head to Perth this Saturday for a blockbuster clash with Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
