The VFL competition has reached the final round of the home and away season, with just one game left as teams jostle for position on the eve of finals action.

Geelong currently sits in fifth position on the ladder, narrowly slipping out of the top four after their loss to Carlton on Saturday.

The final game of the Cats home and away season will see them head up the highway, as they prepare for a clash with Sandringham on Sunday.

No matter the result against the Zebras this weekend, Geelong can not finish lower than sixth and have already secured their place in the first week of the finals.

The VFL is rolling with a Wildcard Round again this year, which will see positions seventh through to tenth compete for a place in the final eight prior to the finals commencing.

Take a look below at the possibilities awaiting the Cats heading into the post season.

With a Win Against Sandringham

If Geelong defeat Sandringham on Sunday, they will finish the regular season in either Fourth or Fifth position.

The Cats are currently two points behind Box Hill in fourth but can climb above them with a win against Sandringham and if the Hawks lose their last game against Werribee, who currently sit first.

If both teams win their final game, Geelong will remain in fifth position and will play the second highest ranked winner from the Wildcard round in an Elimination Final.

With a Draw Against Sandringham

A draw with the Zebras could ultimately be a positive result for the Cats, with the chance to finish anywhere from fourth to sixth if they split the points on Sunday.

With a draw the Cats will finish on 48 points on the ladder, which will leave them level with Box Hill if they lose to Werribee, with Geelong holding a far greater percentage.

But a split result will also give Southport the chance to catch them, with the Sharks sitting just two points adrift of the Cats entering the final round. Southport play the 15th place North Melbourne at home.

With a Loss to Sandringham

The Cats have already secured their spot in the first week of finals, with sixth position the lowest they can finish even if they are defeated by the Zebras on Sunday.

With Gold Coast in seventh position sitting six points behind Geelong, only Southport have the ability to pass the Cats in the final week.

Either way it will mean that Geelong will be hosting an Elimination Final if they lose this week, the only variable is who the opponent they will face coming out of the Wildcard Round.
