This season Geelong are proud to present “No Ceiling,” an AFLW Documentary series focusing on the lessons learned from the 2023 season and the continuing story of Geelong’s blossoming AFLW side.
Hear from a range of players and staff from the program throughout the series, as they take fans deeper into preseason, gameday and week to week training sessions.
Episode 1 features Senior Coach Dan Lowther and gun midfielder Georgie Prespakis, as they reflect on the success of last season and how that has ignited motivation for the 2024 season.
Speaking during the opening episode, Lowther stated “we weren’t far off winning, but we didn’t and we’re okay with that for now. But certainly a driving force for this year is to be able to experience those things again.”
Geelong turned plenty of heads in the 2023 season, securing their maiden finals win against Essendon in the first week of finals, before coming out victorious in a tense finish against Melbourne in a see-sawing Semi Final.
The following week the Cats took on the perennially successful Lions up in Brisbane, holding the lead until late in the game and coming ever so close to capping off a stunning upset.
Georgie Prespakis, along with the midfield unit, was a strong factor in Geelong’s 2023 season, touching on the Cats hot form late in the year.
“I think as a team, by the back end of the season we really hit form and it was really exciting to be a part of… a lot of individuals had really good seasons," Prespakis said.
"I think together as a group we really took major strides, and it was a really exciting and fun season to be a part of.”
While the drama and disappointment of last year still burns, attention has fully switched to 2024 and the Cats will again look to challenge late into the season.
Dan Lowther noted that the connection between staff and players are what was helping drive the standards and connection.
“The consistency and continuity of the people involved has been a really positive driver for the program to continue to evolve in the right way. But I think for me it’s the high collaboration between players and staff.
“We heavily involve the playing group into making decision around their performance, their training, their environment, and I think that’s the buy in and the balance we need to get right.
“What we’ve got is really special, and I’d love to go all the way with this group. I know it’s not as easy as that, and it’s going to come with challenges and the difficult moments.
"But I think if we’re able to overcome them, there’s no ceiling on what we can achieve together as a group and I’m really excited for what this year has to hold.”
No Ceiling will be a five part documentary that will be released throughout the 2024 AFLW season via the Geelong Cats website and social platform.
