Geelong’s dynamic forward line gave Cats fans plenty to be excited about on Saturday night, despite difficult conditions and a swirling wind at GMHBA Stadium.

Hitting the scoreboard in every quarter, the Cats pushed the Demons right to the final siren before falling agonisingly short of a win in their season opener.

At the forefront of Geelong’s forward line was Jackie Parry, who put together a terrific performance booting two goals and recording an equal game-high five score involvements.

Speaking with Cats media after the game, Parry said that there are positives the team will take from the game despite the result not falling their way.

“There are some positives to take away from the game,” Parry said.

“We had pretty even figures across contested numbers, marks and all the stats we wanted to follow as a team.

“We competed until the end, I think you have to take the result on the chin and celebrate the fact that we are back to our brand of footy after a couple of practice matches, but it still hurts.”

Among the Cats exciting forward line was the debut of Irish recruit, Kate Kenny who showed plenty of great signs and booted her first goal on Saturday night.

Parry touched on Kenny’s debut, noting how much the new Cat brings to the team with her athleticism and skill.

“Kate was awesome, she has been a massive addition to our forward line,” Parry said.

“She brings a lot of speed and composure, as well as a bit of flair and a bit of X-factor much like Aishling Moloney.

It is really exciting for her.”

The AFLW Cats will be back in action next Sunday when they head to Arden Street for a clash with North Melbourne.
