Zach Guthrie has capped off an exceptionally consistent season, finishing runner-up in the 2024 Carji Greeves Medal.

Guthrie, who has not missed a game since Round 8 2022, played all 25 matches this season averaging a career high 18.24 disposals and six marks per game.

Another standout year saw Guthrie become a key pillar and interceptor in Geelong’s defence, rewarded with a fresh three-year contract extension which will keep him at the Club until the end of 2028.

Guthrie continues to go from strength to strength in the Geelong backline, finishing seventh in the AFL for intercept possessions and 15th for intercept marks. Along with this, he also averaged career highs in disposals, rebound 50’s and contested marks.

His second place finish follows on from a breakout 2023 campaign, which saw him finish fourth in last year’s Carji Greeves Medal.

Cats coach Chris Scott touched on Guthrie's season during Thursday night's presentation.

"Which leaves us with second place, this guy has been an amazingly consistent player over the last few years," Scott said.

"In my mind he is the most improved player maybe not just in the competition, but the most improved player I have ever seen.

"He came to our footy club as a young, developing player and is now absolutely central to everything we do, especially in the back half."

This year also saw Guthrie rewarded on Brownlow night, polling the first votes of his career in the Round 6 win over Brisbane.

Guthrie finished runner up on 119 votes, 45 votes behind winner Max Holmes, who claimed his first Carji Greeves Medal.
