Lowther on the Week 7 Takeaways
We have played in a few games like that this season where we are going okay, the game looks okay but we just aren’t getting the win that we are chasing which is a bit annoying.
Full credit to the Tigers, they played all four quarters in the same conditions we played and made the most of their opportunities when the ball entered their front half.
I thought what let us down in the last quarter was that we didn’t adjust to the tempo or the game scenario, that we needed to try and dictate how it was played.
Our fundamentals let us down at times, that gave them good looks and they made the most of it.
We will take away that we are playing a style that we think the competition is heading to, but we need to make sure we tighten up.
Lowther on how the Final Quarter Played Out
Not so much slow it down for times sake, it was more about being composed with the footy and trying to make good decisions in real time.
We wanted to try and get some territory away from their goal face, at times we went away from that during the early stage of the quarter.
But then we hit the lead with four and a half minutes to go, so we tried to consolidate and make some good decisions but it didn’t work out that way for us in the end.
It makes it a bit of a frustrating watch, but we had our chances.
Lowther on the Cats Goal-Kicking Struggles
It seems like a bit of a familiar story for us over the last month or so, having multiple shots on goal but just kicking behinds.
I think it is the type of shot on goal we are having too, it is not all chaotic and live play footy. We are having shots from the boundary line when maybe we should be looking to put the ball in more dangerous positions, or probe the ball a bit closer to goal.
That can then support the efficiency with shots on goal, it was pleasing again to go forward and have shots but we need to make them count.
Lowther on the Last Three Weeks
The fact that we have a game to play this week and then two more off the back of that, it is about what we want to get from it.
Whether it is a win or a loss or we get the chance to play players who need greater access, to build the capacity to play long term.
We will take lots from this week, we will take a lot from the next two games after that.
