Geelong headed to the MCG in round seven looking to continue their undefeated streak, taking on Carlton in a Saturday twilight blockbuster.
The Cats faithful certainly recognised the occasion with 87,775 fans packing into the home of football, setting a new record for the highest home crowd in Geelong Football Club history.
It was a record that had not been broken in nearly 35 years, eclipsing the 87,653 supporters that saw Geelong take on Essendon in the 1989 season.

Remarkably it was the second biggest home and away crowd Geelong has ever played in front of in the Club’s history.
The match itself certainly did not disappoint, with two of the competition’s strongest teams going toe-to-toe across four quarters of incredible football.
Geelong gained ascendancy early in the contest with a five goal opening quarter, helping to build a 12-point lead heading into the first break.
The contest went back and forth throughout the second quarter, Jeremy Cameron curling home the 600th goal of his AFL career to give the Cats a little breathing room.
Against his old side Zach Tuohy made sure the crowd got their dose of the ‘Rattling Bog,’ kicking two majors in the opening half as Geelong took a 19-point buffer into half time.
Things tightened up again after the main break, Cameron continued to have a prolific impact kicking his third of the contest, but Carlton clawed the margin back to just four points prior to the final change.
But with momentum swinging against them, Geelong made their decisive move kicking five unanswered goals in a 15 minute period to build a game high 33 point lead midway through the last term.
Cameron booted his fourth major, Henry and Tuohy both kicked their third and the result had seemingly been put to bed with the Cats on their way to a seventh consecutive win.
But it could not be that easy, with Carlton making one final push to cut the deficit to just eight points with still three minutes on the clock.
With Geelong needing someone to stand tall, it was none other than Jeremy Cameron once again who capped off his incredible performance with the game sealing goal, his fifth of the match.
The Cats closed out a 13-point victory, securing top spot on the ladder in front of a record crowd at the MCG.
