We take a look at which Cats are putting their hands up to play the Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

Joel Selwood & Sam Menegola

The Cats played hokey pokey on Sunday, putting the skipper in and then taking the same man out less than half an hour later. Selwood has been a late omission for two consecutive weeks as Chris Scott isn’t looking to risk the star midfielder unless he is 100%.

Menegola got caught up in the pre-match shuffle as he was a late out with a knee complaint but both players will hope to be fit for Saturday’s clash with the Bulldogs.

Sam Simpson (Three goals, seven tackles, six score involvements)

With the Cats facing a six-day turnaround and Gary Rohan (concussion) and Tom Atkins (hip) both questionable, Sam Simpson could be called upon after an impressive effort in the VFL. Three goals and seven tackles playing both on-ball and as a forward, Simpson will be keen to add to his tally of six AFL games.

Lachie Fogarty (27 disposals, 12 clearances, seven score involvements)

Fogarty made his return from injury through the VFL and it would be tough to fault his performance. Named best afield with 27 touches, 12 clearances, seven tackles and a goal. May need another week to improve his match fitness but he will be tough to ignore if he keeps up this form.

Jamaine Jones (21 disposals, seven inside 50s, one goal)

Has showed promise in both half-back and half forward roles this season, has the speed to have an impact at AFL level if called upon.

Scott Selwood (16 disposals, seven clearances)

Scooter has played the last two weeks at VFL level and is starting to find his feet after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered earlier in the year.

Zach Guthrie (15 disposals, six rebound 50s)

Made way for Zach Tuohy in the AFL side and played well in his return to VFL football.

Darcy Fort (Three goals, 15 disposals, seven score involvements)

Could have featured at AFL level already if not for the impressive form of both Rhys Stanley and Esava Ratugolea. Has been a dominant force at VFL level and his strong marking and accurate goalkicking were on full display on Sunday.

James Parsons (15 disposals, 12 uncontested)

Parsons has been amongst the Cats’ emergencies on numerous occasions and has proven himself at AFL level before. Was one of the Cats’ most efficient ball users in Sunday’s VFL loss.
