The Geelong Cats have welcomed the club’s newest official fan group, the Geelong Cats Pride supporter group.
A number of long time Cats supporters and members from the LGBTIQA+ community has formalised their fandom as an official supporter group of the club.
Geelong Cats Pride supporter group is open to LGBTIQA+ people and allies, has memberships available, and a calendar of scheduled activities is being established for 2019.
The Cats have long championed diversity and equality in society, and are delighted to add Geelong Cats Pride supporter group as an official supporter group.
“The club is proud of its standing as an inclusive and diverse part of the community,” said Geelong CEO Brian Cook said.
“We are proud that all people, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation, feel welcome and supported in their support of the Cats.
“To see Geelong Cats Pride supporter group come together and become official is another step in ensuring everyone is welcomed by the club.”
The group will assist Geelong Cats with locating supporters, recruiting new members, fundraising and providing a fun social atmosphere for members to meet and discuss football and the club.
The inaugural Geelong Pride Cup was held in June 2018 and celebrated diversity and inclusion in sport for the LGBTIQA+ communities, with the club joining with AFL Barwon and community organisations to launch the initiative.
