Geelong is keeping it in the family after securing the signatures of brothers Cam and Zach Guthrie.

Cam has signed on with the Cats for a further three years, keeping him at GMHBA Stadium until the end of 2021.

The 25-year-old has played 131 games and kicked 40 goals with Geelong since his round one, 2011 debut.

His versatility has seen him play key roles in the Cats’ midfield alongside Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield and Mitch Duncan whilst moving back to defence when required. 

Cam has the ability to significantly influence both areas of the ground, shut down specific opposition players and become a key playmaker.

Guthrie has played three games in season 2018, after an ankle injury suffered in round three but recently returned to football via the VFL.

After 16 games in the blue and white hoops over two seasons, younger brother Zach has signed on until the end of 2020.

A rookie draft selection in 2016, the 19-year-old was elevated to the senior list for a debut in round 15 last year and played seven out of a possible nine games to finish the season.

Geelong’s General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said the club is delighted to have secured the services of Cam and Zach.

“Cam and Zach are two individuals heavily invested in the Geelong football program, and their commitment to the club speaks volumes to their character,” Lloyd said.

“Cam’s talent, versatility, and his ability to influence games with strong decision making and high skill level are all exciting prospects for the club as we move into the future.

“Zach has demonstrated a high level of commitment and professionalism since arriving at Geelong. He consistently strives to improve, and over a short period of time, has had AFL finals experience and we are very excited about his prospects.

“We see Cam and Zach as playing key roles at Geelong into the future.”

The Guthrie’s re-signings come after fellow Sunbury product, Mark Blicavs and young quartet Tom Stewart, Lachie Fogarty, Charlie Constable and Mark O’Connor recently signed contract extensions with the club.
