Geelong captain Joel Selwood and vice-captain Harry Taylor have both agreed to terms on new contract extensions with the club.
Selwood extends his contract until the end of 2021 and Taylor until 2019.
Selwood, who has captained the club for six seasons, has played 249 games in the blue and white hoops over 11 seasons.
Selected at pick 7 in the 2006 national draft, Selwood debuted in round 1, 2007 and was a member of the Cats’ 2007 Premiership winning team in his first AFL season.
A triple Premiership player (2007, 2009 & 2011) and six-time All-Australian, Selwood finished fourth in this season’s ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal before representing Australia in the 2017 International Rules Series.
“I feel very grateful that I get to continue at this great club for at least another four years,” Selwood said.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to work in such a dynamic environment for a long time now and appreciate the opportunities the Geelong Football Club has given me.
“I love coming to work each day and as I look to the future, I’m excited about our list and what lies ahead as we continue to challenge in what is an extremely competitive competition.”
Taylor extends his decorated career until at least the end of 2019 after 10 seasons with the Cats.
As a 21-year-old, Taylor got his opportunity after the Cats selected the West Australian with pick 17 in the 2007 national draft.
Taylor debuted in round 2, 2008 and has gone onto become a dual Premiership player (2009 & 2011), All-Australian (2010 and 2013) and was named vice-captain of the club at the beginning of 2014.
Taylor has played 229 games for the Cats and kicked 67 goals up forward over 10 seasons.
“I’m excited about where the club is headed and when the approach was made, it was an easy decision to extend my contract here,” Taylor said.
“Every aspect of our club is first-class and provides our team with every opportunity to succeed.
“Working with such great teammates, coaches and support staff makes for a great environment and as a player it’s hard to ask for more.”
Geelong’s General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd is thrilled to have both Selwood and Taylor recommit to the club in time for the beginning of 2018.
“Joel and Harry live our club values and epitomise what it is to be a Geelong person,” Lloyd said,
“They are not only outstanding in the way they represent the club on and off-field but they are exceptional leaders in the way they engage with the community.
“It is fantastic to have both Joel and Harry recommit to the club and will make for a great start to 2018.”
