GEELONG will wait until the last minute before a final decision is made on whether Joel Selwood faces Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night.
Coach Chris Scott said the skipper was fine physically and would train on Thursday, however a final decision would be based on concussion tests conducted by the club's medical staff.
Selwood is critical to Geelong's chances against an opponent that places a high importance on stoppages.
"If we get slaughtered in the contest at the stoppages against GWS, their talent is such that the rest of our game would have to be unbelievable, and you just can't bank on that with the quality and depth of talent that they have," Scott said on Thursday morning.
Ruckman Zac Smith is set to return after a bout of illness while Lachie Henderson is also expected back after missing last week with a minor groin niggle.
Smith performed well against Greater Western Sydney's Shane Mumford the last time the sides met in round 11 last season and is set for another big challenge.
"I don't think he will be going into the game lacking confidence in that respect but we have got a high level of respect for Shane … he is a key part of (their stoppage set-up)," Scott said.
Geelong will be without defender Tom Stewart who had an operation on a fractured eye socket on Tuesday, while youngster Jordan Cunico will miss again after being a late withdrawal against Fremantle due to an ankle injury.
Scott said Cunico would have been picked if fit but hopes the forward will be available for selection in round 16.
