WITH a strengthened midfield set to win more of the ball, there should be no shortage of opportunities for Geelong’s forwards in 2016.
Tom Hawkins shapes as the greatest beneficiary if the supply can be increased.
Hawkins kicked 46 goals in 19 games in the recently completed season, but his effectiveness was diminished by the lack of flow in the Cats’ play up the field.
Nathan Vardy looks like being a key support for the big ‘Tomahawk’ next season.
After playing three games and kicking five goals late in Geelong’s 2015 campaign, Vardy has been training the house down and recently told CatsTV that he was looking forward to playing near the big sticks in 2016.
And we can't forget Daniel Menzel, the young man who was one of the feelgood stories of the 2015 season.
Menzel, who kicked four goals in his comeback game against Collingwood in August, has set himself to become a key member of Geelong's attacking set-up.
Mitch Clark is another player who is slowly shaking off his injury problems.
Can Hawkins, Vardy and Clark fit in the same team? That will be among the big questions thrown up when the NAB Challenge rolls around.
Although Steve Johnson and Mathew Stokes have moved on, the Cats still have plenty of talented small forwards.
Cory Gregson was a revelation in 2015, while Steven Motlop, who is set to float between half-forward and the midfield, will be aiming to improve on his 26-goal haul.
Mid-sized forward Shane Kersten, midfielder-forward Darcy Lang and mature-age draftee Sam Menegola are other players who know where the goals are.
And there are plenty more forward line candidates, none more qualified than the one and only Jimmy Bartel.
So things are looking up, but now it’s time for you Cats fans to send us your thoughts on who our most important forward will be in 2016.
