On a Preliminary Final edition of Argue the Toss, afl.com.au’s Adam McNicol and the Herald Sun’s Scott Gullan discussed the rivalry that is the Cats and the Hawks.

After losing to the Cats on the past 11 occasions, the Hawthorn mindset will need to be as strong as ever to overcome the mighty blue and white.

“Well the fact is they’ve lost to Geelong 11 times in a row and that does matter,” McNicol said.

“It clearly affects them, every game’s been close but Hawthorn has just found a way to lose over and over again.”

With Hawthorn the more rested team coming into Friday night’s Preliminary Final, McNicol still believes the so called ‘curse’ will be playing on their minds.

“So in their minds they must be thinking they’ve done everything right to this point but there would be some doubt there.”

Scott Gullan believes the two teams simply match up well but the Cats have the belief factor.

“They’ve been playing ordinary for three weeks but a half of footy like last week can just turn it around.,” Gullan said.

“They come up against a team and go ‘hang on, Hawthorn have got everything to lose here, we again are going to come in with a free swing at them and we know how to beat them’.

“It’s the perfect match up for Geelong.”
