Port Adelaide’s senior coach, Ken Hinkley, says it’s always tough meeting Geelong on the back of a loss, however he believes that his team has the confidence and the speed to win.
Each time the Cats met Port Adelaide this year they had come from a loss, Round 9 it was Collingwood and Round 20 it was the Roos.
According to Hinkley the Cats know exactly how to bounce back hard after a defeat, which will make for another arduous contest this Friday night at the MCG.
“Unfortunately for us this is going to be the second time we’ve played them off a loss. We know how proud they are as a club” Hinkley told www.portadelaidefc.com.au
However, Hinkley has confidence that his young side can return to the MCG for another courageous performance against Geelong.
"We're going back to the MCG expecting to play well," Hinkley said.
"They know if they do the work, you end up okay.
"They've done a lot of hard work and that is why they have belief."
Port’s powerful senior forward, Jay Schulz, is also feeling optimistic about their upcoming Semi Final. He says the players, who only had five wins last year, are not ready to end the season just yet.
"We want to keep our season going," Schulz said.
"It has been a fantastic year so far, but it is not finished yet - and we don't want it to finish yet,"
“I think the boys are confident that if we defend the right way, we know that they’re (Geelong) offensively good, but the team can struggle to keep up with our run.
“We just need to get our defensive stuff right first and win the ball in close and get the ball going our way, and anything can happen,” Schulz explained.
Overall, Port Adelaide are excited to have another opportunity to shine on the big stage this Friday night and look forward to having another shot against the Cats.
“If you had of asked us this time last year or at the start of preseason if we would play in a final, we’d probably say you’re kidding yourself,” Jackson Trengove told Fox Sports.
“There's a lot of excitement around our footy club at the moment and the boys are pretty pumped with what we were able to dish up (against Collingwood).
“Obviously we’re going up against arguably the best side in the last decade and we respect Geelong immensely, but we’ll bring our effort and hopefully we’ll bring four quarters and we’ll try and match them as best we can.”
