Frank Meesen is our Member of the Month, presented by Momentum Energy.
Frank moved to Geelong as an 18-year-old in 1954 where he worked as a baker. His colleagues convinced him to come to the footy and he has been a member ever since – 66 years on!
He spent many years going to games with the same group of friends, unfortunately a few have passed since.
Frank is a true Geelong person. He is currently a social club member and holds and AFLW supporter membership.
His passion for the town extends beyond the Club too. He is a member of the Geelong Cricket Club despite never having played cricket before.
He has been to a couple of AFLW games already too.
“I wanted to become an AFLW member as I want to support all teams the club and city offers,” Meeson said.
During his 66 years as a member Frank has many fond memories.
His favourites include being at the 2007, 2009 and 2011 Grand Finals. Frank said the most memorable one was beating Collingwood, however 2009 did bring tears to his eyes.
His three favourite players of all-time are Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett Snr and Matthew Scarlett.
He described Ablett Snr as the greatest footballer he has ever seen.
