This week we are paying tribute to one of our oldest supporters, 98-year-old Brian Costello.

The following summary of Brian’s connection to the Cats was sent through by his son Simon.

I recently presented an Our Ambition jumper to my father, Brian Costello, who is looking forward to his 99th birthday this Christmas Day.

Brian became a passionate Cats supporter when he was one of the club’s assistant medical officers in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He was one of four Melbourne-based doctors who helped out at the club, including Dr Edward Ryan, who was one of the club’s well known supporters.

Brian also worked alongside Kevin Threlfall.

He most fondly remembers Polly Farmer’s arrival at the club and how he transformed the game.

Brian fathered seven fanatical Geelong supporters and he remembers how we would worm our way through the crowd at Kardinia Park to get a closer view of our heroes.

He now has 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Most of them barrack for the Cats.

Brian has high hopes of making it to 100 and seeing another Geelong flag.
