A much needed break
Steve Johnson will use this week's bye to recuperate so he's well prepared for the run home
Despite only kicking two goals, Steve Johnson believes it was Tom Hawkins’ contested work in the forward line that enabled Geelong’s wide spread of goals.
Saturday night, Geelong’s 13-goals were shared around by nine different Cats, with Johnson owning three and Hawkins and Caddy owning two each.
“It’s nice to have a spread of goal kickers, it throws a bit more at the opposition,” Johnson told Cats TV.
“I thought Hawk was really good even though he didn’t kick as many goals as he normally does - but just his contested work and bringing others into the game (was crucial).”
With five important battles on the horizon, Johnson will make the most of this week’s bye to ensure he’s at his absolute best for the critical part of the season.
“I’ll relax and get the body right and get rid of the little aches and pains,” Johnson said.
“We’ve got an important month after the bye so we need to refresh and hopefully train hard leading into the next game (against the Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium).”
