Stokes reveals Cats extra duress
Geelong star Mathew Stokes says the Cats players are completing a modified training schedule in the hopes of peak fitness come finals time
Speaking prematch on K-Rock radio, Stokes said the players are putting extra duress on their bodies earlier in the week to build strength and fitness.
“What it means is, instead of coming in on a Tuesday or a Monday and just trying to get your body back to feeling how it should be, you’re actually stressing the body out even more by doing 10 minutes of extra hard running or jumping on the bike for an extra 30 minutes,” he said.
“It probably doesn’t result in too much extra work, but while you’re trying to recover for the next game, you’re actually putting your body under more stress by training harder.
“The science behind it is hopefully by Round 22 it gives you enough fitness to get through and that’s when you’re peaking.”
Stokes also told K-Rock that despite pulling up sore from rehab this week he is on track to return for the Cats following the bye in three weeks time.
