Cats TV discussed the key matchups in this week’s blockbuster against Hawthorn at the MCG with Andrew Mackie and Scott Gullan on Argue the Toss.

Over the past five years Mackie has seen Tom Lonergan and Lance Franklin as one of the most memorable matchups in the contest. He can also see Dawson Simpson having an influential impact in the ruck if he’s chosen for this week’s clash.

“Lonergan and Franklin is one that stands out for me, Lonergan’s gone to him the last few times and has done a really good job and Buddy’s always going to do his bit.”

“Big Dawson Simpson showed on the weekend that he’s doing some good things in the ruck and if he can give our blokes first hand on the ball would be great.”

Despite Mark Blicavs’ and Trent Wests’ impressive handy work on the field, Gullan believes Simpson’s height and build has the ability to add an extra dimension to the Cats’ ruck.

A component of the Cats’ game that has been missing up until now.

“Like I mentioned the stats were up because the Cats haven’t had that (height) due to injuries. Blicavs and Westy, who are undersized, have battled away and then suddenly you’ve got a seven-foot-two guy who can actually get his hands on the ball.”
