Geelong’s physio from the nib Medical Room, Mike Snelling, told Cats TV that Dawson Simpson would most likely miss out on this year’s final series after his knee injury on Saturday night.

Snelling described to Cats TV exactly what happened when the 206cm ruckman tumbled to the ground in the second quarter against the Saints.

“It buckled inwards and he’s actually sprained the ligament on the inside of his knee, the MCL, and also at the same time his knee cap obviously appeared to dislocate and it popped out to the side and popped straight back in.”

The Cats will have more information on his condition and length of recovery once Snelling receives the results from his scans.

“Dawson is having a scan today and we’ll then look at that and the extent of the damage,” Snelling said.

“He’ll definitely miss a few weeks and it might be tough for him to come back in time for the final series.”

Having lost one ruckman the Cats are keeping their fingers crossed that they see the return of another before the season ends. This week Snelling had more good news about the Cats ruckman, Hamish McIntosh, who will hopefully receive the opportunity to play his first game with the Cats before the finals hit.

McIntosh, who is recovering from an ankle injury, is still yet to play his first game with the Cats since arriving from North Melbourne last year with a knee injury.

“Hamish has progressed well and he’s now running out on the ground, we expect him to progress his running in the next couple of weeks and hopefully he’ll be integrated into training and we see him before the end of the season,” Snelling said.

Allen Christensen has shown positive development with his hamstring and Snelling hopes to have him ready for this weekend.

“He had a good session on the weekend, he ran around well today and we expect him to be into training and if he gets through everything there we’ll then test him for the weekend.”

Paul Chapman is another Cat on the comeback list that Snelling is feeling confident about.

“He trained last week and trained at speed and got through the session really really well, he’s got to get through a couple more training sessions and if he does hopefully we’ll see him back playing this weekend.”
